Happy people = happy pets, and I believe that it is important that people take care of themselves so they will have happy and healthy pets.

Given how tough times have been as of late, there are many things we can do to relax and feel better about ourselves.  Remember:  animals can sense when we are stressed and unhappy.

Below are some tips on how to feel better about yourself.  When you feel good, your pets will feel good!

Exercise every day—even if you just take a walk.  You will be amazed at how much better you feel!

Smile. It is the ultimate anti-depressant because smiling makes you feel good.  Try it...it works!

Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.  We do not realize how background noise actually causes us to be stressed.

Drink at least 8 glasses of water each day.  Water is a wonder drug because it cleans out your body, it reduces wrinkles in your skin, and it fills you up so you are not so hungry.

Compliment people.  It’s free and making people happy will reduces their stress as well as your own.

Do not gossip.  Remember:  if someone is gossiping to you about someone else, chances are they are going to gossip about you to someone else.  Besides, there are so many other things to talk about than the personal lives of other people!

Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.  Hate depletes energy that you need to function and it gives the person who you are angry at power because they are taking time out of your life that you could be using on yourself.

You don't have to win every argument.  The beauty of life is that you can debate people and listen to their opinions.  If everyone thought the same way, wouldn’t live be boring?

Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the present.  Nothing in life is a mistake, rather, missteps are learning experiences and they make us who we are.

Don't compare your life to others.  While you may think that someone else has the perfect life or marriage, but you really do not know what that person has gone through because you were not there every single step of their life.  Do not assume anything because no one is perfect.

Frame every so-called disaster with these words:  “In five years, will this matter?”  Quite often things that we think are a big deal are not.

Do not worry about what other people think of you—who are they to judge you when no one is perfect?

Envy is a waste of time.  Things may be nice to have, but they are just things.
